Man arraigned for allegedly defiling 11-year-old girl

Lagos - Dunstan Ukaga, who allegedly raped an 11-year-old girl has been arrested and arraigned before a Lagos Chief Magistrate’s Court, sitting at Ebute-Metta, Vanguard reports.

The suspect was said to have carnal knowledge of the girl severally between April 24 and September 28, at his residence at Road 311, Block 2, flat 6, at Festac Town area of the state, an allegation the suspect denied.

  Abuja - Four dismissed soldiers, Nse Eywdip, 33; Ugwu Mathew, 23; Emezien Uzonna, 24, and Efosa Ikhomoregbe, 23, were re-arraigned on Thursday at an FCT High Court, Abuja, charged with raping four sex workers.

The four accused were re-arraigned on a 12-count charge bordering on conspiracy, rape, assault and armed robbery.

The prosecution counsel, Adama Musa, told the court that the former soldiers committed the offences between December 21 ,2012 and Dec. 23, 2012 at about 9 p.m. at River Plate Garden in Wuse 2, Abuja.

Musa said the accused, armed with military rifles and horsewhips, robbed one Tina Obassy of N40 000, Jennifer Joseph of N30 000, Precious Okorie, N18 000 and Ruth Madu, N30 000.

The offences contravene and are punishable under sections 97(1) and 298 of the Penal Code, the prosecution said.

However, the accused each pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against them.

Their counsel, Ugboma Nebechi, filed an application for bail for the accused but Justice Bukola Banjoko did not grant the application but ordered an accelerated hearing of the case.

Banjoko, thereafter, ordered that the four men be remanded in the Kuje Medium Prison and adjourned the case to July 20 for continuation of hearing.

The four soldiers were initially arraigned on June 7, 2013, before Justice Mudashiru Oniyangi but the case was re-assigned after the elevation of the judge to the Court of Appeal.

Lagos—The Police yesterday charged a man, Dunstan Ukaga, 39, before a Lagos Chief Magistrate’s Court, sitting at Ebute-Metta, for allegedly raping an 11-year-old girl (names withheld).
The suspect, who is facing a count-charge of having unlawful carnal knowledge of the girl, preferred against him, was docked before Magistrate A. A. Demi-Ajayi.
The prosecutor, Deputy Superintendent Etim Ekankum, told the court that the defendant raped the minor several times between April 24 and September 28, at his residence at Road 311, Block 2, flat 6, at Festac Town area of the state.
He said the offence was punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.
The defendant, who claimed to be a freelance journalist with a magazine, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Magistrate Demi-Ajayi admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum.
The magistrate ordered that the two sureties must deposit N30,000 each to account of the court’s Chief Registrar, and present to court evidence of three years tax payment to Lagos State government.
She also ordered that Ekankum duplicate the case file and forward it to the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, for advice.
She adjourned the case to November 26 for the outcome of DPP’s advice.
